Coral Calcium
A Controversial Calcium Supplement

Coral calcium is typically sold as coral calcium powder, capsules or tablets. Coral calcium has been heavily advertised and has become quite popular. But is coral calcium the best choice for a calcium supplement?

Coral Calcium Contains Lead and other Heavy Metals

Consumer Reports analyzed a number of calcium supplements, including coral calcium. Consumer Reports' chief medical adviser Dr. Marvin Lipman said, "All of the brands that we tested contained the amounts of calcium promised on the label, but some also contained lead at levels that we think make them a poor choice." Of the 4 brands of calcium supplements labeled as "poor choices," 2 of those were brands of coral calcium.

According to the January 2005 Consumer Reports, both brands of coral calcium contained levels of lead that were too high to meet California's state lead standard. In addition to containing lead, coral calcium also contains a number of other toxic metals.

Coral Calcium Test Results

Western Analysis, Inc., an independent laboratory, ran a mineral analysis on coral calcium. Their lab report (pictured on left) shows that coral calcium contains a number of toxins. Small amounts of aluminum, arsenic, lead, mercury, thallium, and nickel were found to be present in the coral calcium sample.

Coral Calcium May Be Hazardous to Your Health

It is difficult for the human body to cleanse itself of the types of toxic metals found in coral calcium. When these toxins are consumed, even in small amounts, over time they tend to accumulate. As they build up, they can cause health problems. Therefore choosing coral calcium as your calcium supplement may prove to be a very unwise choice.

Choosing an Alternative to Coral Calcium

When considering which calcium supplement to use, there are several points to keep in mind:

  • The calcium supplement should be free of any toxic substance.

  • Calcium tablets sometimes contain binders that the body cannot break down. When the binder (or glaze used to coat the tablet) cannot be digested, the entire tablet passes through the body intact. The calcium in the tablet is totally inaccessible to the body and, therefore, does not utilized.

  • The form of calcium we choose is extremely important. Many forms of calcium have molecules that are physically larger than our cells. Those forms of calcium cannot be assimilated or used at the cellular level. Calcium needs to be no larger than angstrom in size to be utilized.

  • Large unusable calcium molecules sometimes accumulate in the body. A buildup of calcium may become a calcium deposit associated with certain types of arthritis. At other times unusable calcium becomes calcium kidney stones, calcium gallstones, part of the plaque that lines our arteries, or results in other unhealthful conditions.

What Type of Calcium Supplement is Best?

Supplements providing angstrom-sized calcium makes an excellent choice. These supplement are:

  • Ionic (possessing a negative charge which aids absorption)
  • Water-soluble and in liquid from
  • Rapidly assimilated
  • Highly usable in the body
According to Joseph B. Marion author of the Anti-aging Manual, minerals in this form are 7,000 times smaller than a red blood cell. Ionic minerals are 98% usable in the body.

Where is Angstrom-sized Calcium Available?

Angstrom Minerals™ has several products containing angstrom-sized calcium. Annette Hasalone-Eve, N.D., the doctor behind these products, is very conscientious about the minerals that go into these supplements. They are the highest pharmaceutical grade available. Should the pharmaceutical grade not be available, then only the highest food grade is used. That practice assures that Angstrom Minerals™ are free of heavy metals and other toxic substances.

Angstrom Minerals™ brand supplements are liquid ionic minerals that are easy to use. Because of the extremely small mineral size, these supplements do not need to be digested. They are cell-ready, making them a good choice even for people with compromised digestive systems.
